The NZAAT Emerging Artist Awards
The New Zealand Art Show recognises the importance of initiatives that open avenues for young artists to move forward and accumulate experience. The NZAAT Emerging Artist Award aims to recognise and encourage emerging talent studying visual arts at established art teaching facilities in New Zealand.
This is the second year the award is being presented, thanks to the generous patronage of Richard T. Nelson, the award’s official sponsor.
- 4 awards of $2,500 each
- For students studying visual arts at the diploma or degree level
- Open to all art schools offering a diploma and / or degree in visual arts
- Art schools have the opportunity to nominate up to 3 students
- 4 recipients will be chosen from all the nominations
- The winners will be exhibited in a designated gallery at the New Zealand Art Show 2013
In 2012 the prize was extended to only four art schools, but this year the New Zealand Art Show is inviting all tertiary art schools around the country to submit nominations. The award is aimed at emerging artists who display creative excellence and commitment to their discipline
The 2012 recipients were Toby Raine (Elam Schol of Fine Arts), Hannah Salmon (Massey University College of Creative Arts) and Kiri Mitchell (Dunedin School of Fine Art at Otago Polytechnic)

Signature Piece Art Award
A $5,000 cash prize recognizing an excellent piece of art. 10 finalists are exhibited in the Signature Piece gallery at the New Zealand Art Show and the winner is decided by a public vote during the show. Find out more here.
